We considered this subject right from the start, even on our FREE membership, we did not wish you to see dozens of adverts, but as we get bigger and offer more services - someone has to employ web designers, administer and pay for the site space etc; so a nominal fee seems fair.
The fact that we are budgeting for registrations to run into the 'thousands' is good for all members as a whole, as it keeps the costs down. The basic membership is FREE but we feel £5 for the Silver is good value especially converted to the Euro and the US$ and simple to pay using 'WorldPay'.
We have considered 'one payment for life' [no pun intended] but as a 'not-for-profit' organization and knowing 'nothing is for ever' (except death) - we prefer to have a nominal annual income to cover the regular tweaks and changes. Too many companies have taken money in advance with a lifelong promise... only to disappear in just 2 or 3 years. Tempting as it may be to rake in the millions, we just don't wish to work that way. |
