| Why? |
| This was one of the very first and important questions asked. There are a few reasons and a few answers - obviously if you are young(ish) you are not expecting to die suddenly BUT unfortunately it does happen and astonishingly often (see our statistics page). You may have secret friends or people you prefer to be kept very private (for many reasons we will not go into), this site gives you an opportunity to have your death announced in private by e-mail, card or by a phone call to anyone of your choice. Looking at our stat’s site you will see so many people die unexpectedly, for a loving partner this can be a major trauma - it is sensible to leave 'lastwishes' available to be provided when necessary? |
| Who would want to use it? |
| Anyone really, young or old, wishing to send information that wouldn’t normally be able to be past on after their death - for one reason or another, someone perhaps living alone with remote friends and no relatives (such an event helped form this site). |
| Is a computer required? |
| Users would normally have to have access to any form of e-mail or computer, but if they don’t - we provide a print-out form to complete and post back or for an agent (Matron in a nursing home, relative with a PC, etc.) to enter on their behalf. The service was designed to be on-line and simple. |
| What would I wish to say? |
| We do not moralize, make judgement or even read what you wish to eventually send on - on this basis you could for example leave a confidential message to be sent a secret lover - who may never know naturally that you had suddenly died... |
| Does it cost anything? |
| Is there such a thing as a 'free lunch'? - well somebody's paid for it!!!! In this case the basic membership is free. If you like it we ask 2 things of you - tell 2 friends (or as many as you like) to check it out and use it. If you don't like something - tell us via the red comment box on our site. |
| Is the data secured? |
| As secure as we can make it. Ours site uses 128 bit encryption in our secure areas (the members area, where you enter your messages). You will probably notice a symbol of a small padlock appear in the bottom of your browser when you are in the members area indicating that any data you enter is sent to us encrypted. Real-time backups of the data are also made to ensure that no information you entrust with us gets lost. |
| What are your Terms & Conditions and what about privacy? |
| We have tried to keep matters for you as simple as possible, with the use of 'Crystal Clear English' – reducing gobbledegook, legalese and such conditions that would need a lawyer - let’s keep it simple... We will not under any circumstances divulge your e-mail address or details to anyone; we will only contact you to tell you something, which may be important. Your data will be kept as secret as we can. We offer all these facilities in good faith...so, don’t leave defamatory messages, don’t slander anyone and use this opportunity to make peace. Our deal is simple - WHEN YOU DIE (and only after proof) we e-mail messages you have lodged, we post the chosen cards to the addresses you gave, we telephone the people you listed on the numbers you gave - reading out what you have written - it's that simple. |
| What if I’m not satisfied or have a complaint? |
| There will always be someone, somewhere, somehow dissatisfied, so if you don’t like what we are offering - don’t use it (but tell us why in our comment box). |
| I think its brilliant - can I help? |
| Lots of members do - they make suggestions and recommend us to their friends. If you have a constructive suggestion please use the red box to tell us what you think - we are always looking to improve our service. Of course if you really like the service you could send us a donation for our upkeep and even leave us a wad in your will (we've given you an opportunity to donate). |
| What happens when I die? |
| You will have your own REGISTRATION CARD which details what a finder (of your body?) should do immediately - especially if you have elected to DONATE YOUR ORGANS. It is credit card size and should be carried with you (if you are a donor) or kept in a prominent place and/or made known to your executor, next of kin, etc. You yourself print off as many of the card as you think will be helpful to the execution of your lastwishes. The finder has instructions on the card to start the ball rolling. |
| How will you know I'm dead? |
| Presuming your body has been found, the police, hospital, executor etc. will have started the ball rolling, this initiates a special sequence which requires absolute PROOF...we do nothing UNTIL we are sure that has really happened. |
| What happens when you know I am dead for certain? |
| An automatic sequence is started which after checking, sends out your last e-mails, cards are posted and telephone calls are made - all based upon instructions you have lodged with us. |
| Can anyone be malicious about reporting my death? |
| If someone knows your personal details and your account number, or finds your card with your number on it, they have to go through the same procedure of reporting the (supposed) death - with all those provisos of proof - we reserve the right to report such activity to a police authority and provide details which may trace the sender. |
| How do I amend my data? |
| Once you have registered you can use your account number and PIN we have e-mailed to you to login to your account. Once logged in you will be able to amend your own details, the executor details, and add/edit/delete your messages. If you wish you can also upgradeyour account to provide more facilities. |
| Does the registration affect my Will? |
| What you say in e-mails and messages has no bearing on any Will you may leave. It is highly recommended that if you have not already made a Will - MAKE ONE NOW! |
| Can I leave a Living Will with you? |
Firstly, this is a new subject and service we may provide later…Living Wills are currently under governmental discussion. They vary from country to country. Usually they are for use in England and Wales but not in Scotland.
Secondly, you may like to consider using a Living Will as such exists as a desire to let your doctors and family know what you would like to happen if you were in a coma or not able to communicate for a period of time, however, you may only be able to use a Living Will to have treatments refused that would perhaps unnaturally keep you alive in a vegetable like state. It may not be possible to request specific treatments, but you may however be able say what quality of life and level of treatment you would consider acceptable if you developed into such a state.
